«  The General Education curriculum framework from the 2017 academic semester include “Languages” and “ General Education” areas, for a total of 28 credits.
NTNU officially began implementation of the curriculum framework for the new General Education system in the first semester of the 2017 academic year. The revised regulations are applicable to students in or after the 2017 academic year.

1.         Language courses include: Chinese 1 (2 credits), Chinese 2 (2 credits), English 1 (2 credits), English 2 (2 credits), English 3 (2 credits).

2.         The general education program spans seven specializations: Language and Literature, Art and Aesthetics, Philosophical Thinking and Moral Reasoning, Citizenship and Social Inquiry, History and Culture, Mathematical and Logical Thinking, as well as Science and Life. Students must take at least 2 credits from each specialization.

3.         The general education program also provides second foreign language and life skills courses for students as general credits.

 

«  The curriculum structure of General Education during the 2008-2016 academic years includes three main categories: Languages, Core program and non-core program, consisting of a total of 28 credits.

1.         Languages include: Chinese language (4 credits), English I (4 credits) and English II (2 credits); for students enrolled after 2012 academic year, Language include: Chinese I (2 credits), Chinese II (2 credits), English I (2 credits), English II (2 credits), and English III (2 credits).

2.         Core program includes the following six major areas: Art and Aesthetics, Philosophical Thinking and Moral Reasoning, Citizenship and Social Inquiry, History and Culture, Mathematical and Logical Thinking, and Science and Life; students must take 2 credits from each area.

3.         Non-core program includes relevant courses, other than languages and courses in the core program, which facilitate diverse learning experience of students. At least 2 credits are required.

 

«  The same subject may not be repeated. To ensure a broader and more diverse perspective, students should attempt general education courses that vary in content, nature, and designation.

For students enrolling in the 2017 academic year and beyond

NTNU students must take at least 28 general education credits in order to graduate, including 10 language credits and 18 general education specialization credits. Please see the chart below for breakdowns:

Notes:

1.      Students must take at least 2 credits from each of the seven general education specializations listed. The remaining 4 credits must come from either another course from the general education specializations, a second foreign language, or a life skills course.

2.      The minimum requirement for the general education curriculum is 28 credits. Those students who take over 28 credits may use them as free elective credits.

Notes:

1.      Some undergraduate students may take courses from only five core programs, but they still need to fulfill at least 12 credits from the core program altogether.

2.      After taking at least 12 credits’ worth of courses from the core program and at least 2 credits from other general education courses, the remaining four credits may be taken in any core program or general education course.

3.      The minimum requirement for the general education curriculum is 28 credits. Those students who take over 28 credits may use them as free elective credits.
